Selby Alan Haupert, 79, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in his home. Selby was a graduate of Cornell College and did post-graduate work at the Wharton School of Business. He was owner of Port Cities Oil Co. and a past president of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association. Selby served on the Government Affairs Committee, the Motor Fuel Committee, the Long Range Marketer Planning Committee and the Research Planning Committee of the National Oil Jobbers Council. He received the Mr. Phil award from Phillips Petroleum Co. for his humanitarian service and was given the Outstanding Jobber of the Year in 1972. Selby was a Navy veteran, a Rotarian and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith, where he served as an elder. He served on the boards of the Sebastian County Red Cross, the Easter Seal Society, the Fort Smith Girls Club, Saint Edward Development Corp., Habitat for Humanity and the Fountain of Youth. He was a volunteer for Hospice and Meals on Wheels.
Selby is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wolferman Haupert; one daughter, Lisa Jones Haupert and her husband, Lee Jones of Liverpool, England; one son, John Moulton Haupert and his partner, Bryan Allen Brooks of Dallas; two grandsons, David Andrew Haupert of Lille, France, and John Russell Haupert of Boston.
Memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Private burial arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
